The 18 Sound 10NMBA520 is the most electrically transparent 10-inch driver 18 Sound has ever made — and arguably the most electrically transparent LF driver in the professional audio industry. With Active Impedance Control (AIC) technology producing an inductance of 0.01 mH — ten times lower than the previous 18 Sound record of 0.1 mH on the 6NMB420 — 100.5 dB sensitivity, a 60 Hz – 7000 Hz bandwidth, and a 104 mm depth that makes it the shallowest 10-inch in the catalogue, the 18 Sound 10NMBA520 delivers a level of impedance linearisation and electrical transparency that no other technology in 18 Sound’s range approaches.

The 0.01 mH inductance is the specification that redefines the category. At 0.01 millihenries, the 18 Sound 10NMBA520’s impedance curve is essentially flat from DC to beyond 7 kHz — a pure resistive load. Crossover networks see a textbook resistor, not an inductor. Design and Construction of the 18 Sound 10NMBA520

The 18 Sound 10NMBA520 uses a 64 mm (2.5-inch) aluminium ISV (Interleaved Sandwich Voice Coil) wound on a fibreglass former as the primary moving coil. The ISV places conductor on both surfaces of the former for mass-balanced, linear motor behaviour. The fibreglass former improves force transmission and power handling.

The AIC (Active Impedance Control) coil is the defining technology. A secondary voice coil is physically fixed to the pole piece — wound onto the pole structure and permanently bonded in position. This coil does not move. It has no connection to the cone or moving assembly. It adds zero grams to the moving mass. It is connected in parallel to the primary ISV coil, receiving the same electrical signal.
