B&C 15PS100 – Reliable 15-Inch Subwoofer Driver for Cost-Effective Bass Builds

The B&C 15PS100 is the 15-inch member of B&C’s PS100 platform — a proven, practical subwoofer driver that delivers solid low-frequency performance without overcomplicating the build or the budget. With a 100 mm copper voice coil, 700 W AES power handling, 95 dB sensitivity, and a 35 Hz – 1500 Hz bandwidth, the B&C 15PS100 provides genuine sub-bass capability from a compact 15-inch frame that many builders overlook in favour of larger formats.

At 9.8 kg with a ferrite motor, this driver keeps weight and cost realistic — and a Qts of 0.43 gives you the kind of enclosure flexibility that makes it a practical choice for builders who want one driver to serve across multiple cabinet designs. Sealed, vented, or even band-pass — the B&C 15PS100 works in all three without needing aggressive EQ or exotic alignments to sound right.

For portable PA subs, compact DJ rigs, home builds, and budget-conscious live sound systems, the B&C 15PS100 is the workhorse 15-inch sub driver that delivers dependable performance and leaves budget in the build for everything else.

Design and Construction of the B&C 15PS100

The B&C 15PS100 uses a 100 mm (4-inch) copper voice coil wound on a glass fibre former. A 4-inch coil on a 15-inch driver is a generous choice — it gives the B&C 15PS100 a larger thermal mass and better power handling than most 15-inch competitors running 3-inch or 3.5-inch coils. The 21 mm winding depth operating in an 11 mm magnetic gap yields 8 mm of linear one-way excursion (Xmax) with an additional 6.5 mm of travel (Xvar) before mechanical limits.

The motor uses a ferrite magnet in a T-pole configuration, producing 1.05 T of flux density and a force factor (Bl) of 21.2 Tm. Copper winding is the deliberate choice here — denser and more conductive than aluminium, it provides better thermal transfer from the coil to the former and frame, helping the driver manage heat during sustained high-power use. The 21.2 Tm Bl driving a 160 g moving mass delivers well-controlled transient response across the operating range.

Suspension is handled by a double silicone spider with optimised compliance and a triple-roll surround. The radial cone profile is tuned for sub-bass duty rather than mid-range extension — a fundamentally different design intent from B&C’s exponential-cone woofers like the PLB76 and FW88 that prioritise upper-frequency bandwidth.

TWP waterproof treatment on both sides of the cone provides moisture resistance for outdoor gigs and less-than-ideal storage conditions. At 168 mm deep and 9.8 kg, the B&C 15PS100 fits comfortably into compact sub enclosures without adding excessive weight to the finished cabinet.

Performance and Applications for the B&C 15PS100

The B&C 15PS100 delivers 95 dB sensitivity and 1.35% reference efficiency across a 35 Hz – 1500 Hz bandwidth. The 35 Hz lower limit is the differentiator here — it’s meaningfully lower than B&C’s woofer-class 15s like the PLB76 (40 Hz) and the FW88 (49 Hz), confirming that the B&C 15PS100 is designed to reach down into genuine sub-bass territory where those wider-bandwidth drivers roll off.

The Thiele–Small parameters make the B&C 15PS100 one of the most flexible 15-inch sub drivers in the B&C range. A Qts of 0.43 and an EBP of 83 Hz place it right on the sealed/vented boundary — the same versatile alignment zone as the 18-inch PS100 models. You can run it sealed for tighter, more controlled bass in a smaller cabinet, or vented for extended low-frequency reach. B&C recommends a 120-litre (4.24 ft³) vented enclosure tuned to 35 Hz for the full vented alignment.

The 4-inch voice coil gives the B&C 15PS100 a genuine power handling advantage over most 15-inch drivers in this price class. 700 W AES and 1400 W continuous program power mean you can push this driver with a serious amplifier without worrying about thermal limits — the larger coil dissipates heat more effectively than the 3-inch and 3.5-inch coils found on competing designs.

Ideal applications for the B&C 15PS100 include:

  • Compact vented subwoofer cabinets for portable PA and DJ systems
  • Sealed sub enclosures where tighter bass response is preferred
  • Budget-friendly DIY subwoofer builds for live sound and home audio
  • Dual-driver sub configurations using 8 Ω parallel pairs
  • Replacement driver for existing 15-inch sub cabinets needing a reliable 8 Ω transducer

Conclusion – B&C 15PS100 Subwoofer Driver

The B&C 15PS100 does what the PS100 platform has always done — delivers honest, dependable performance at a price point that makes builds accessible. The 4-inch copper voice coil gives it a genuine thermal advantage over most 15-inch drivers in this class, and the Qts of 0.43 provides the enclosure flexibility that builders need when designing across different applications.

Where B&C’s woofer-class 15s like the PLB76 and FW88 are optimised for mid-bass efficiency and upper-frequency bandwidth, the B&C 15PS100 reaches lower. The 35 Hz lower limit and 35 Hz recommended tuning frequency confirm this driver’s purpose — real sub-bass output from a 15-inch frame, delivered reliably and affordably.

For compact sub builds, portable PA rigs, dual-driver configurations, or anywhere you need a budget-friendly 15-inch sub that handles real power and reaches into the low end with confidence, the B&C 15PS100 is the straightforward choice. No frills, no gimmicks — just a well-built B&C driver that does its job gig after gig.
