Practical Blaze by Sonance PowerZone Connect 122 – 125W 2-Channel DSP Amplifier for Entry-Level Commercial Audio

The Blaze by Sonance PowerZone Connect 122 is a 125W DSP-enabled Class-D amplifier with two output channels in the smallest and lightest chassis the PowerZone Connect range offers. At just 44 × 220 × 213 mm and 2 kg, it is the entry point to the entire PowerZone ecosystem — delivering the same full-matrix DSP, hybrid Lo-Z/Hi-Z operation, and built-in PowerZone™ Control web app as every other model in the family, scaled down to a power level and price point that makes professional amplification accessible for the simplest installations.

Powered by Pascal UMAC™ Class-D technology, the PowerZone Connect 122 gives integrators across Africa an affordable, ultra-compact amplifier for single-zone or dual-zone background music, paging, and speech reinforcement. Whether it is a small café, a single meeting room, a salon, or a neighbourhood retail shop, the 122 handles the job with genuine professional-grade DSP and build quality — without the cost or complexity of higher-channel models.

Design and Construction of the Blaze by Sonance PowerZone Connect 122

The PowerZone Connect 122 uses the short-depth half-rack chassis shared with the 252. Dimensions are 44 × 220 × 213 mm (1.7″ × 8.7″ × 8.4″) at just 2 kg (4.4 lbs). That 213 mm depth is over 100 mm shallower than the 254 and 504 models, meaning the 122 fits into furniture cavities, under-counter spaces, shallow wall boxes, and tight AV closets where deeper amplifiers would not clear.

Two half-rack units sit side by side in a single 19″ rack space. Pair a 122 with a 252, 254, or 504 for mixed-power configurations without wasting rack height. Adhesive rubber feet are included for freestanding desktop or shelf placement, with optional rack ears, extension plates, and full rack support kits available separately.

The output stage runs on Pascal’s UMAC™ Class-D platform — the same full-bandwidth PWM modulator used across the entire PowerZone Connect range. The UREC™ universal mains switch-mode power supply features Power Factor Correction (PFC) and an integral standby converter, accepting 100–240V AC at 50–60 Hz. Power consumption at full load is just 75W, and standby draw drops below 0.5W — meeting both ErP and Energy Star standards. Protection circuits cover short circuit, DC fault, under-voltage, thermal, and overload conditions. The unit is UL listed and backed by Blaze’s five-year warranty.

Performance and Applications for the PowerZone Connect 122

In Lo-Z mode, each of the two output channels delivers 60W into 4Ω or 8Ω loads. That is enough to comfortably drive a pair of ceiling speakers or a compact surface-mount cabinet per channel at background music and speech levels in a small-to-medium room. Switch to Hi-Z and the unit reconfigures as a single 125W channel driving a 70V or 100V distributed speaker line — covering a corridor, open-plan zone, or compact paging loop.

Automatic power-sharing redistributes up to 125W across both output channels proportionally. In a two-zone Lo-Z setup, the zone with heavier speaker loading draws more than its base 60W while the lighter zone scales back — keeping the system balanced without manual intervention or external processing.

The built-in PowerZone™ Control web app provides the same full-matrix DSP found on the larger and more expensive models in the range. You get multizone routing, input mixing, priority and ducking for paging, restriction settings, parametric EQ on inputs and outputs, high-pass filtering, speaker presets, delay, a sine generator for commissioning, Wall-S1 controller configuration, and Master/Slave S/PDIF linking for cascading multiple amplifiers. Access it from any browser via the built-in Wi-Fi or the RJ45 network port.

Audio quality punches well above the price tier: signal-to-noise ratio exceeds 106 dB (A-weighted), THD+N stays below 0.05% across 20 Hz – 20 kHz, and frequency response holds within +0/−0.25 dB into an 8Ω load. These are the same figures as the larger 504 and 1008 — the 122 simply applies them to a smaller power envelope.

Typical applications include small cafés and bistros, individual meeting rooms and boardrooms, hair salons and day spas, neighbourhood retail shops, small office reception areas, hotel back-of-house zones, and any compact space that needs clean, controlled background audio with professional-grade DSP. For projects that require Dante™ audio-over-IP networking, the PowerZone Connect 122D variant adds integrated Audinate Dante™ in the same chassis.

Conclusion

The Blaze by Sonance PowerZone Connect 122 is the most affordable and compact entry into the PowerZone Connect ecosystem. With 125W of total system power, two output channels, and the complete PowerZone™ Control DSP suite built in, it delivers genuinely professional amplification and system management from a 2 kg half-rack chassis that is just 213 mm deep. The audio performance — 106 dB signal-to-noise ratio, sub-0.05% distortion — matches the rest of the range regardless of the lower power tier.

For integrators across Africa, the 122 is the starting point for small commercial audio projects where budget, space, and simplicity are the primary drivers. It pairs with any other half-rack model in the same rack space, scales via Master/Slave S/PDIF linking, and upgrades to the 122D when Dante networking is needed. Combined with Blaze Ci Series loudspeakers or any compatible 4Ω–16Ω and 70V/100V speakers, the 122 proves that entry-level does not mean entry-quality — it is the same professional platform, simply sized for smaller venues.
