18 Sound 10NDA610 – Ultra-High-Output 10-Inch AIC Midrange with 103 dB Sensitivity and 20.3 Tm Force Factor
The 18 Sound 10NDA610 is the highest-output 10-inch driver 18 Sound has ever made. At 103 dB sensitivity — surpassing every other 10-inch in the range by at least 2.5 dB — with AIC (Active Impedance Control) technology, a 75 mm edgewound ISV voice coil producing 20.3 Tm of force factor, 400 W AES power handling, 0.06 mH inductance, and a depth of just 96 mm, the 18 Sound 10NDA610 is a dedicated midrange transducer that produces output levels competing with dedicated 12 and 15-inch midrange drivers from a 10-inch frame.
The 103 dB sensitivity is the headline that defines the 18 Sound 10NDA610. It’s 2.5 dB above the 10NMBA520’s 100.5 dB. It’s 4.5 dB above the 10NTLW2000’s 98.5 dB. It’s 1 dB above the 10M600 ferrite midrange’s 102 dB. No 10-inch driver in 18 Sound’s range — current or legacy, neodymium or ferrite, woofer or midrange — approaches 103 dB. The 18 Sound 10NDA610 produces more output per watt from a 10-inch cone than any alternative.
The 20.3 Tm force factor is the highest of any 18 Sound 10-inch driver — exceeding the 10NTLW3500’s 19.2 Tm from an 88 mm Dual Gap coil. The 75 mm ISV coil with AIC technology generates 5.7% more force than the largest Dual Gap motor in the range. The 20.3 Tm driving 30 g of moving mass produces a Bl/Mms ratio of 0.677 Tm/g — the highest acceleration factor of any 18 Sound 10-inch by a substantial margin.
The AIC technology provides the same five-fold benefit as the 10NMBA520: impedance linearisation, phase linearisation, sensitivity increase, distortion reduction, and constant power transfer. The 0.06 mH inductance is near-zero — the impedance curve is essentially flat from DC through the 6100 Hz operating range. The AIC coil fixed on the pole piece generates a counter-field that eliminates inductance without adding moving mass.
At 3.5 kg, 260 mm overall, 232 mm cutout, 96 mm depth. Horn or direct radiating, sealed from 4 litres or reflex from 10 litres. 8 Ω. 18 Sound lists the 10NMBA520 as the alternative/current model.
Design and Construction of the 18 Sound 10NDA610
The 18 Sound 10NDA610 uses a 75 mm (3-inch) edgewound aluminium ISV (Interleaved Sandwich Voice Coil) wound on a fibreglass former. The 75 mm coil is the largest ISV coil fitted to any 18 Sound AIC-equipped driver — stepping up from the 10NMBA520’s 64 mm. The edgewound construction packs more conductor into the gap per unit of coil height. The ISV places conductor on both surfaces of the former for mass-balanced, linear motor behaviour.
The 20.3 Tm force factor is the product of the 75 mm ISV coil’s larger conductor length in the high-flux neodymium magnetic circuit. The 75 mm coil generates 39% more force than the 10NMBA520’s 64 mm coil (20.3 vs 14.6 Tm) — the larger coil puts more conductor in the gap, and the AIC coil’s interaction with the permanent magnet’s field amplifies the effective flux. The 20.3 Tm is the highest Bl of any 18 Sound 10-inch driver regardless of motor technology.
The AIC (Active Impedance Control) coil is the same technology as the 10NMBA520 — a secondary voice coil fixed to the pole piece, connected in parallel to the primary moving coil, generating a counter-field that linearises impedance, linearises phase, increases sensitivity, reduces distortion, and maintains constant power transfer. The 0.06 mH Le confirms the AIC’s inductance elimination — slightly higher than the 10NMBA520’s 0.01 mH but still in the near-zero class where inductance is effectively absent from the driver’s electrical behaviour.
The curvilinear cone uses high-damping wood pulp with 18 Sound’s in-house developed treatment that provides both humidity repellency and significant bell-mode resonance damping. The dual-purpose treatment addresses environmental protection and acoustic performance from a single cone treatment — the same approach used on the 8M400F midrange.
The double roll surround provides controlled compliance through the 2.5 mm Xmax. The short excursion confirms the pure midrange design intent — maximum sensitivity, minimum displacement, all energy directed toward mid-frequency output.
The 96 mm depth is the shallowest of any 75 mm-coil 10-inch driver in the range — and 8 mm shallower than the 10NMBA520’s 104 mm despite the larger coil. For horn-loaded applications where the driver mounts in a compact chamber behind the horn, and for line array elements where driver depth determines element thickness, 96 mm is an extraordinary achievement from a 75 mm ISV coil with AIC.
At 3.5 kg, 260 mm overall diameter, 232 mm baffle cutout, and 14 mm flange.
Performance and Applications for the 18 Sound 10NDA610
The 18 Sound 10NDA610 delivers 103 dB sensitivity across a 100 Hz – 6100 Hz bandwidth. The 103 dB from a 10-inch midrange exceeds the sensitivity of many dedicated 12 and 15-inch midrange drivers. For systems where the midrange section needs to keep pace with high-output bass and HF sections in large-format PA, the 18 Sound 10NDA610 provides the mid-frequency output that only compression drivers on horns typically achieve from cone transducers.
The 400 W AES / 600 W program power handling is the highest of any 18 Sound 10-inch midrange and among the highest of any 10-inch in the range. The 75 mm coil’s thermal surface area sustains this rating during extended operation.
The 0.06 mH inductance provides the same AIC-class crossover advantage as the 10NMBA520. The impedance is essentially resistive — passive crossovers achieve theoretical response without compensation. DSP filters operate at maximum accuracy. The 0.06 mH is six times higher than the 10NMBA520’s 0.01 mH — the larger 75 mm coil produces marginally more residual inductance — but still negligible by any professional standard.
The 89 Hz Fs, 0.23 Qts, and 370 Hz EBP define an extreme motor-dominant midrange alignment. The driver operates from 100 Hz upward in horn-loaded, direct-radiating, sealed, or reflex configurations. 18 Sound recommends a 10-litre reflex enclosure tuned to 90 Hz, with sealed enclosures working from as small as 4 litres.
In horn-loaded configuration, the 103 dB sensitivity and 0.23 Qts produce mid-frequency SPL levels that compete with compression driver sections. The horn adds pattern control and loading efficiency to the already-extreme sensitivity, creating a midrange section that fills arenas and festivals from 10-inch cone drivers.
The comparison to the 10NMBA520 defines the two AIC-equipped 10-inch tiers. The 10NMBA520 is the AIC mid-bass (100.5 dB, 64 mm coil, 60–7000 Hz, 4 mm Xmax, 0.01 mH, 104 mm deep). The 18 Sound 10NDA610 is the AIC midrange (103 dB, 75 mm coil, 100–6100 Hz, 2.5 mm Xmax, 0.06 mH, 96 mm deep). The mid-bass provides wider bandwidth and more displacement. The midrange provides more sensitivity, more power, more force factor, and shallower depth.
The comparison to the ferrite 10M600 positions the 18 Sound 10NDA610 as the neodymium AIC alternative to the ferrite midrange. The 10M600 delivers 102 dB at 7.35 kg. The 18 Sound 10NDA610 delivers 103 dB at 3.5 kg — 1 dB more sensitivity at less than half the weight, with AIC-class inductance (0.06 vs 1.28 mH) that the ferrite motor can’t approach. The neodymium AIC midrange delivers more from less weight with incomparably lower inductance.
Conclusion – 18 Sound 10NDA610 Midrange Driver
The 18 Sound 10NDA610 is the highest-sensitivity, highest-force, shallowest 10-inch midrange driver 18 Sound has ever made. The 103 dB sensitivity is unmatched by any other 18 Sound 10-inch. The 20.3 Tm force factor is the highest of any 10-inch in the range — exceeding the 10NTLW3500’s 88 mm Dual Gap motor from a 75 mm ISV coil with AIC. The 0.06 mH inductance is near-zero. The 96 mm depth is the shallowest of any 75 mm-coil 10-inch.
The AIC technology provides what no combination of SDR, DDR, or Dual Gap achieves at this scale: 0.06 mH inductance with simultaneous sensitivity increase, phase linearisation, and distortion reduction from a fixed secondary coil that adds zero moving mass. The 103 dB sensitivity is partly a consequence of the AIC effect — the technology doesn’t just clean the output, it makes the output louder.
For horn-loaded midrange sections, high-SPL direct-radiating midrange, line array mid-frequency elements, and any system where a 10-inch midrange needs to deliver 103 dB sensitivity with the highest motor force, the lowest inductance, and the shallowest depth available, the 18 Sound 10NDA610 is the AIC midrange that sets the ceiling. One hundred and three decibels, 20.3 Tesla-metres, 0.06 millihenries, 96 millimetres — the ultimate 10-inch midrange.
