10″ Woofer Driver

18 Sound 10NW750 – High-Power 10-Inch Neodymium Woofer with 75 mm ISV Voice Coil and Dual Distortion Reduction

The 18 Sound 10NW750 is the most refined 10-inch woofer in 18 Sound’s neodymium range. With a 75 mm ISV voice coil, dual distortion reduction using both an SDR demodulating ring for flux modulation cancellation and a copper ring for intermodulation distortion reduction, 94 dB sensitivity, 450 W AES / 900 W program power handling, 7.5 mm Xmax, and a 50 Hz – 5000 Hz bandwidth, the 18 Sound 10NW750 delivers the highest power handling and the most sophisticated motor engineering of any 10-inch woofer in 18 Sound’s catalogue.

The dual distortion reduction system is the technology that separates the 18 Sound 10NW750 from every other 10-inch driver in the range. The SDR handles harmonic distortion from flux modulation during excursion. The copper ring handles intermodulation distortion from multi-frequency signal interaction. Together, the two rings address distortion from two independent sources, producing cleaner output than either ring achieves alone — the same DDR approach used on the 8NMB750 at 8 inches.

The 75 mm ISV coil is the largest coil 18 Sound fits in a 10-inch woofer. The step from 51 and 65 mm coils to 75 mm provides substantially more thermal surface area — the engineering foundation for the 450 W AES power rating that is the highest of any 18 Sound 10-inch woofer.

At 3.8 kg with an external neodymium magnet, weather-protected cone and coated plates, triple roll surround, and 8/16 Ω availability. 18 Sound recommends a 25-litre vented enclosure tuned to 60 Hz.

Design and Construction of the 18 Sound 10NW750

The 18 Sound 10NW750 uses a 75 mm (3-inch) aluminium ISV (Interleaved Sandwich Voice Coil) wound on a glass fibre former. The ISV places conductor on both surfaces of the former for mass-balanced, linear motor behaviour. The 75 mm coil is the same diameter used on the 8NM610 sealed-back midrange and the 8NMB750 DDR mid-bass — 18 Sound’s premium coil platform scaled to the 10-inch format.

The dual distortion reduction system is the motor’s defining feature. The SDR is positioned in the magnetic gap to cancel flux modulations during excursion — reducing harmonic distortion that increases with coil travel. The copper ring addresses intermodulation distortion — reducing the sum and difference frequency products that multiple simultaneous signals generate. Both rings also linearise inductance — the SDR linearises inductance versus excursion, the copper ring linearises inductance versus current. The combined result is the 0.6 mH Le and the cleanest output of any 18 Sound 10-inch woofer.

The 16.4 Tm force factor driving 45 g of moving mass produces 94 dB sensitivity. The 94 dB is lower than the 10NTLW2000’s 98.5 dB, the 10W500’s 98 dB, the 10NTLW2500’s 96.5 dB, the 10NW650’s 96 dB, and the 10W650’s 96 dB — the heavier 75 mm coil and 45 g moving mass trade sensitivity for power handling and the distortion reduction that smaller-coil drivers can’t carry.

The 7.5 mm Xmax is the second-highest of any 18 Sound 10-inch driver (the 10NTLW2500 achieves 7.6 mm). The triple roll surround provides controlled, progressive compliance through the excursion range. The curvilinear cone with weather protection and coated plates provides outdoor durability.

The external neodymium magnet provides high flux concentration and excellent heat exchange. At 3.8 kg, 260 mm overall diameter, 232 mm baffle cutout, 130 mm depth, and 11 mm flange.

Performance and Applications for the 18 Sound 10NW750

The 18 Sound 10NW750 delivers 94 dB sensitivity across a 50 Hz – 5000 Hz bandwidth. The 94 dB is the lowest sensitivity of any neodymium 10-inch woofer in the range — the honest trade-off for the largest coil, highest power handling, and dual distortion reduction that no other 10-inch carries.

The 450 W AES / 900 W program power handling is the highest of any 18 Sound 10-inch woofer. The 10NTLW2500’s Dual Gap motor handles 500 W AES — 50 W more — but uses a different motor technology. Among ISV-equipped drivers, the 18 Sound 10NW750’s 450 W is unchallenged.

The dual distortion reduction advantage is most audible at high power. At 300+ watts, where conventional drivers generate increasing intermodulation distortion as the coil swings through asymmetric Bl curves, the 18 Sound 10NW750’s symmetrical DDR system keeps the output clean. Vocals stay natural, transients stay defined, and the mid-range maintains clarity instead of becoming muddy as power increases.

The Qts of 0.31 and EBP of 165 Hz place the 18 Sound 10NW750 in motor-dominant vented territory. 18 Sound recommends a 25-litre enclosure tuned to 60 Hz — a compact cabinet targeting punchy mid-bass with usable bass extension.

Within the full 10-inch range, the 18 Sound 10NW750 occupies a specific tier. The 10NTLW2000 delivers maximum sensitivity (98.5 dB) at minimum weight (1.9 kg). The 10NTLW2500 delivers maximum power (500 W) with Dual Gap technology at 3.1 kg. The 10NW650 delivers the best weight-to-sensitivity ratio (96 dB at 2.7 kg). The 10W650 delivers SDR with ferrite flexibility (0.48 Qts at 4.3 kg). The 10W500 delivers highest ferrite sensitivity (98 dB). The 18 Sound 10NW750 delivers the dual distortion reduction, the highest ISV power handling (450 W), and the most Xmax (7.5 mm) — the most refined motor at the cost of the lowest neodymium sensitivity and heaviest neodymium weight.

Conclusion – 18 Sound 10NW750 Woofer

The 18 Sound 10NW750 is the most powerful and most refined ISV-equipped 10-inch woofer in 18 Sound’s range. The 75 mm ISV coil provides the thermal capacity for 450 W AES sustained operation. The dual distortion reduction — SDR plus copper ring — addresses harmonic and intermodulation distortion simultaneously, producing the cleanest output at high power of any 18 Sound 10-inch.

The 7.5 mm Xmax, 50 Hz lower frequency, and 5000 Hz upper bandwidth provide the displacement and frequency range that compact two-way systems and line array elements demand. The 3.8 kg weight keeps the neodymium advantage over ferrite alternatives. And the 0.6 mH inductance from the dual-ring linearisation produces flat impedance behaviour for clean crossover transitions.

For high-performance line arrays, compact two-way systems, touring rigs, and any 10-inch application where sustained power handling, dual distortion reduction, and the most sophisticated motor engineering define the specification, the 18 Sound 10NW750 is the ISV 10-inch that carries the DDR technology to the format. Seventy-five millimetre coil, dual rings, 450 watts, 7.5 millimetres — the most refined 10-inch woofer in the catalogue.
