B&C 12BG100 – Superior 12-Inch Neodymium Long-Throw Subwoofer Driver for Deep Compact Bass

The B&C 12BG100 is the most displacement-capable 12-inch driver in B&C’s entire range — a purpose-built long-throw neodymium subwoofer with 10.5 mm of linear excursion, 14 mm of Xvar, 1000 W AES power handling, and a 40 Hz recommended tuning that reaches deeper than any other 12-inch driver B&C makes. This is the 12-inch format taken to its absolute limit for sub-bass output, carrying every premium feature in B&C’s catalogue: FEA-optimised neodymium motor, aluminium demodulating ring, ventilated gap, woven lead wires, double silicone spider, and TWP waterproof treatment on both sides.

The BG platform — the same architecture used in B&C’s 15BG76 and 15BG100 long-throw sub drivers — brings dedicated sub-bass design to the 12-inch format. The rubber roll surround, radial cone, heavy 152 g moving mass, and 27 mm winding depth are all optimised for maximum displacement and deep low-frequency output rather than mid-range efficiency. The B&C 12BG100 doesn’t try to be a woofer — it’s a subwoofer, built from the ground up for sub-bass authority from a compact frame.

B&C recommends a 40-litre vented enclosure tuned to 40 Hz — the deepest tuning recommendation of any 12-inch driver in B&C’s range. For compact sub cabinets, distributed bass arrays, and under-seat or in-fill sub applications where a 15-inch driver is too large, the B&C 12BG100 delivers sub-bass output that defies the 12-inch format.

Design and Construction of the B&C 12BG100

The B&C 12BG100 uses a 100 mm (4-inch) copper voice coil wound on a glass fibre former. The 27 mm winding depth — the deepest of any 12-inch driver B&C makes — operating in an 11 mm magnetic gap yields 10.5 mm of linear one-way excursion (Xmax) with a generous 14 mm of additional travel (Xvar) before mechanical limits. That 24.5 mm total one-way excursion before damage is the highest in B&C’s 12-inch range, matching the 15BG100’s figure and providing massive headroom for sustained high-displacement operation.

The motor uses an FEA-optimised neodymium inside-slug magnet in a T-pole configuration, producing 1.15 T of flux density and a force factor (Bl) of 23 Tm. The FEA optimisation ensures maximum flux concentration from the neodymium assembly, and the T-pole geometry focuses that flux in the voice coil gap. An aluminium demodulating ring reduces flux modulation, keeping harmonic and intermodulation distortion controlled as the driver operates at the high excursion levels it’s designed for — a critical feature for a sub that routinely works near its Xmax.

A ventilated voice coil gap reduces power compression during sustained high-power operation, and excursion-optimised lead wires woven through the spider prevent fatigue and breakage at these displacement levels. Suspension is handled by a double silicone spider with optimised compliance. The rubber roll surround provides the high compliance and large stroke capability that long-throw sub-bass operation demands — the same surround architecture used across B&C’s BG-series sub drivers.

The radial cone features TWP waterproof treatment on both sides for full weather resistance. At 8.8 kg — the heaviest 12-inch driver in B&C’s entire range — the B&C 12BG100 carries the mass of a 4-inch copper coil, double spider, and FEA-optimised neodymium motor assembly. Every gram serves the displacement and power handling that define this driver’s purpose.

Performance and Applications for the B&C 12BG100

The B&C 12BG100 delivers 93 dB sensitivity and 0.7% reference efficiency across a 40 Hz – 1000 Hz bandwidth. Those numbers confirm the driver’s priorities without apology — every design parameter trades efficiency for displacement and deep low-frequency output. The 152 g moving mass, deep 27 mm winding, and high-compliance roll surround all sacrifice sensitivity to achieve the 10.5 mm Xmax and 39 Hz Fs that make genuine sub-bass output from a 12-inch frame possible.

The Thiele–Small parameters define the most versatile sub-bass alignment of any 12-inch driver in B&C’s range. A Qts of 0.33 and an EBP of 111 Hz place the B&C 12BG100 in a flexible zone — vented enclosures work well with a range of tuning frequencies, and sealed alignments in the 20–30 litre range produce naturally flat, well-extended bass response without EQ assistance. B&C recommends a 40-litre (1.41 ft³) vented enclosure tuned to 40 Hz — the deepest recommended tuning of any 12-inch driver in the range, placing the driver’s output firmly in sub-bass territory.

Compared to the 12NBX100, the B&C 12BG100 trades sensitivity (93 vs 96 dB) and upper bandwidth (1000 Hz vs 1500 Hz) for more Xvar headroom (14 mm vs 10 mm), a higher Qts that supports sealed enclosure use (0.33 vs 0.22), and a 10 Hz deeper tuning recommendation (40 Hz vs 50 Hz). The NBX100 is a woofer that can reach low; the B&C 12BG100 is a subwoofer that stays low. Different drivers for different roles in the signal chain.

Ideal applications for the B&C 12BG100 include:

  • Compact 12-inch subwoofer cabinets for portable PA and DJ systems
  • Sealed sub enclosures where the Qts of 0.33 delivers naturally flat bass
  • Distributed bass arrays using multiple compact 12-inch sub cabinets
  • Under-seat and in-fill sub applications where 15-inch drivers are too large
  • Vented sub designs tuned to 40 Hz or lower for genuine sub-bass extension

Conclusion – B&C 12BG100 Subwoofer Driver

The B&C 12BG100 is B&C’s ultimate compact subwoofer driver. The 10.5 mm Xmax, 14 mm Xvar, 27 mm winding depth, and 40 Hz recommended tuning are all range-topping figures for the 12-inch format — no other 12-inch driver in B&C’s lineup matches the B&C 12BG100’s displacement capability or sub-bass reach. Every design parameter is optimised for one job: moving the maximum amount of air at the lowest possible frequencies from a 12-inch cone.

The distinction between the B&C 12BG100 and the 12NBX100 mirrors the same relationship at 15 inches: the NBX100 is a woofer with exponential cone, higher sensitivity, and wider bandwidth; the BG100 is a subwoofer with roll surround, radial cone, deeper tuning, and more Xvar headroom. If your 12-inch driver is handling sub duties in a system with a separate woofer above it, the B&C 12BG100 is the right tool. If it’s handling bass and low-mid duties in a two-way system, the NBX100 is the right tool.

For compact sub cabinets, distributed bass arrays, under-seat subs, and any application where a 12-inch driver needs to deliver the deepest, hardest-hitting bass the format can produce, the B&C 12BG100 is the neodymium 12-inch sub that sets the displacement benchmark. It’s the smallest driver in B&C’s BG sub-driver family — and it delivers every gram of the output that the platform promises.
