B&C DE910 – High-Output 1.3-Inch Neodymium Compression Driver with 3-Inch Voice Coil and 2.05 Tesla Motor

The B&C DE910 is B&C’s flagship 1.3-inch exit compression driver — a larger-format transducer that steps beyond the 1-inch exit class into a performance tier defined by a 75 mm voice coil, 2.05 T flux density, 109.5 dB sensitivity, and 80 W AES power handling. Every key specification exceeds the DE550/DE550TN 1-inch drivers that top B&C’s smaller-exit range. The B&C DE910 is where B&C’s compression driver engineering moves from compact high-performance into full-scale professional output.

The 2.05 T flux density is the highest of any driver in B&C’s entire product catalogue — surpassing even the DE550’s 2 T record. The neodymium motor with shorting copper cap concentrates this extreme magnetic energy around a 75 mm voice coil that is the same diameter as the coils found in B&C’s 10 and 12-inch professional woofers. The scale of the motor and coil assembly is what makes the B&C DE910’s output possible.

The 1.3-inch exit throat (33 mm) provides a larger acoustic coupling area than the 1-inch drivers. The larger exit pairs with 1.3-inch and 1.4-inch horn flanges, giving builders access to larger horn bodies with wider coverage patterns and lower frequency cutoffs — the kind of horns that professional touring and installed systems demand.

The composite polyester/titanium diaphragm combines two materials in a single dome. The titanium layer provides the stiffness needed for detailed, extended high-frequency output. The polyester layer adds damping that reduces the sharp resonant peak titanium alone would produce. The result is a diaphragm more detailed than pure polymer and smoother than pure titanium.

Available in 8 Ω only, with a user-replaceable diaphragm (part number MMD3B8M). At 2.4 kg, 131 mm overall diameter, and 52 mm depth, the B&C DE910 is compact for a 1.3-inch exit driver with a 3-inch coil.

Design and Construction of the B&C DE910

The B&C DE910 uses a 75 mm (3-inch) aluminium voice coil driving a composite polyester/titanium diaphragm through a 1.3-inch (33 mm) exit throat. The 3-inch coil is a massive step up from the 1-inch range — the DE550’s 51 mm coil was already the largest in its class, and the B&C DE910’s 75 mm provides roughly 116% more coil surface area for heat dissipation and drive force.

That enormous coil surface area is the engineering behind the 80 W AES / 160 W program power rating — the highest of any compression driver we’ve covered in B&C’s range. The 3-inch coil dissipates heat across a much larger area than any 1-inch exit driver can achieve, sustaining rated output for longer without thermal compression.

The magnetic circuit produces 2.05 T of flux density from a neodymium magnet assembly — the absolute highest in B&C’s product catalogue. A shorting copper cap on the pole piece reduces voice coil inductance rise at higher frequencies, extending the usable response and keeping the impedance curve flat through the 18 kHz upper limit.

The 0.14 mH inductance with the copper cap is remarkably low for a 3-inch coil driver. Without the cap, a coil this size would produce significantly higher inductance, rolling off the high-frequency response and making the impedance curve unpredictable. The cap keeps the B&C DE910 behaving like a much smaller driver electrically while delivering the thermal capacity of a 3-inch coil platform.

The composite polyester/titanium diaphragm is an engineering solution to the titanium vs polymer debate. Pure titanium is stiff but resonant. Pure polymer is smooth but soft. The composite layers both materials together — titanium provides structural stiffness for pistonic behaviour at high frequencies, while polyester provides internal damping that absorbs the resonant energy titanium alone would release as a harsh treble peak.

The practical result is a treble character that combines titanium’s detail and presence with polymer’s smoothness and control. System designers get the projection and definition of titanium without needing as much corrective EQ to manage the resonant peak.

At 2.4 kg, 131 mm overall diameter, and 52 mm depth, the B&C DE910 is the most compact driver we’ve covered with a 3-inch coil. Four M6 mounting holes on a 102 mm (4-inch) bolt circle at 90° intervals provide secure four-point attachment to compatible 1.3-inch and 1.4-inch horn flanges.

Performance and Applications for the B&C DE910

The B&C DE910 delivers 109.5 dB sensitivity across a 1 kHz – 18 kHz bandwidth with a recommended crossover frequency of 1.2 kHz. The 109.5 dB is the highest sensitivity of any compression driver we’ve covered in B&C’s HF range — 1.5 dB above the DE550/DE550TN and 2.5 dB above the DE502. In real-world terms, the B&C DE910 produces roughly 40% more acoustic power per watt than the DE550.

The 1.2 kHz recommended crossover matches the DE550 as the lowest in B&C’s range. The larger 1.3-inch exit and 75 mm coil give the B&C DE910 even more authority in the 1–2 kHz mid-frequency range than the 1-inch drivers, producing more controlled, more powerful output in the critical vocal presence band.

The 80 W AES / 160 W continuous program power handling is the highest of any compression driver we’ve covered. The DE550 handles 70 W AES, the DE502 handles 50 W — the B&C DE910 steps beyond both with a power rating that supports sustained high-SPL operation of large-format touring systems and high-output installed sound.

The 75 mm coil’s thermal mass ensures this isn’t just a peak rating. The B&C DE910 sustains 80 W without the gradual compression smaller-coil drivers exhibit over extended operation periods.

The 1.3-inch exit opens up horn options that 1-inch drivers can’t access. Larger-exit horns typically provide wider coverage angles with lower distortion and better pattern control at lower frequencies. Pairing the B&C DE910 with a properly designed 1.3-inch or 1.4-inch horn produces a complete HF system with more output, better coverage, and lower distortion than any 1-inch exit configuration.

The composite polyester/titanium diaphragm makes the B&C DE910 effective in systems with or without DSP processing. The built-in damping from the polyester layer reduces the need for corrective EQ. In systems with full DSP, the naturally well-behaved response provides a clean starting point for voicing.

Ideal applications for the B&C DE910 include:

  • Large-format two-way and three-way touring speaker systems
  • High-output installed sound in venues, clubs, arenas, and performance spaces
  • Line array HF sections requiring maximum sensitivity and power handling
  • Two-way systems crossing over at 1.2 kHz for optimised directivity control
  • Applications requiring 1.3-inch horn compatibility for wider coverage patterns
  • Premium PA systems where the composite diaphragm’s balanced treble is preferred
  • Sustained high-SPL environments where 80 W AES thermal headroom is non-negotiable

Conclusion – B&C DE910 Compression Driver

The B&C DE910 is the most powerful compression driver in B&C’s range that we’ve covered. The 2.05 T flux density is the absolute highest in B&C’s entire product catalogue. The 75 mm voice coil is the largest in the HF range. The 80 W AES is the highest power rating. The 109.5 dB sensitivity is the loudest.

Every specification represents a step up from the 1-inch exit class. The DE550 and DE550TN are the best 1-inch drivers B&C makes — the B&C DE910 is where you go when the 1-inch format has reached its limits and the application demands more output, more headroom, and more authority from the HF section.

The 1.3-inch exit and four-bolt mounting pattern place the B&C DE910 in a different physical class. This is a driver for professional touring systems, high-output installations, and large-format line arrays where the compression driver section needs to match the output of serious bass and mid-bass sections.

The composite polyester/titanium diaphragm ensures the B&C DE910 sounds as refined as it is powerful. The 2.05 T motor and 75 mm coil deliver everything cleanly, consistently, and at sustained power levels that would compromise any 1-inch driver in the catalogue.
