The 18 Sound 6M44 uses a 44 mm (1.75-inch) CCAW aluminium voice coil wound on a fibreglass former. The fibreglass former improves force transmission from the voice coil to the cone — stronger mechanical coupling means less energy is lost in the former and more reaches the cone as acoustic output.
