Everything about the 18 Sound 6NMB900 is optimised for mid-band output, motor control, and the transparency that ultra-low inductance produces.

The 0.1 mH inductance is the specification that defines the 18 Sound 6NMB900’s electrical character. Zero point one millihenries. For context, the 6NTLW2000’s dual-gap motor achieves 0.22 mH — already the lowest of any 18 Sound LF driver before the 18 Sound 6NMB900 cut that figure by more than half. The 8NMB420’s ISV coil produces 0.35 mH. Standard professional 6.5-inch drivers typically measure 0.5–1.5 mH. Design and Construction of the 18 Sound 6NMB900

The 18 Sound 6NMB900 uses a 44 mm (1.75-inch) aluminium voice coil on a high-strength former. The 44 mm coil is appropriately sized for the mid-bass application — small enough to keep moving mass to the extraordinary 7.4 g that produces 97 dB sensitivity, large enough to provide the thermal capacity for 200 W AES power handling. The lightweight aluminium winding minimises coil mass, which directly contributes to the featherweight Mms.

The 7.4 g moving mass is the lightest of any 18 Sound 6.5-inch driver — 11.6 g lighter than the 6NTLW2000’s 19 g — and lighter than the 5W430’s 8.2 g despite the 6NMB900 having a larger cone (130 vs 90 cm² Sd).
