8″ Coaxial Driver

18 Sound 8NCX750 – Premium 8-Inch Neodymium Coaxial with 75 mm ISV Voice Coil, SDR, and 5-Litre Minimum Enclosure

The 18 Sound 8NCX750 is the most motor-dominant, lightest, and most compact-enclosure coaxial transducer 18 Sound has ever made. With a 75 mm ISV copper voice coil — the same coil found on the 10, 12, and 15-inch NCX750 platforms — SDR distortion reduction, a 20 Tm force factor matching the 10NCX750, 98 dB LF sensitivity, a 64 mm EWAL titanium HF section, 80° coverage, and suitability for enclosures as astonishingly compact as 5 litres, the 18 Sound 8NCX750 packs the full NCX750 technology suite into a 3.95 kg package that redefines what an 8-inch coaxial can deliver.

The 75 mm ISV copper coil in an 8-inch frame is the engineering statement. No other 8-inch coaxial in 18 Sound’s range carries a 75 mm coil — the 8CX401F uses 51 mm, the 8CX650 uses 65 mm. The 18 Sound 8NCX750 uses the same coil platform as the 15-inch flagship coaxials, scaled to an 8-inch cone with 29 g of moving mass. The result is 20 Tm of force factor — matching the 10NCX750 exactly — and a Bl/Mms ratio of 0.69 Tm/g that is the highest of any coaxial in 18 Sound’s entire catalogue.

The 5-litre minimum enclosure is the smallest of any 18 Sound coaxial by a factor of three. The next smallest is the 10NCX750 at 15 litres. Five litres is a cabinet the size of a shoebox — a complete two-way coaxial point source in a volume that passive bookshelf speakers would consider small. The 111 Hz Fs, 0.26 Qts, and 411 Hz EBP confirm why this extreme compactness works: the 18 Sound 8NCX750 is not a bass-extension driver. It’s a mid-bass and midrange transducer with an integrated HF section, designed to operate from 90 Hz upward with a dedicated sub handling everything below.

At 3.95 kg — lighter than every neodymium coaxial in the range including the 10NCX750’s 4.25 kg — the 18 Sound 8NCX750 is the lightest professional neodymium coaxial 18 Sound makes. 18 Sound now lists the 8CX650 as the current alternative model, indicating the 18 Sound 8NCX750 is moving toward legacy status. However, no current 8-inch coaxial in the range matches its motor specifications or enclosure compactness.

Design and Construction of the 18 Sound 8NCX750

The 18 Sound 8NCX750 integrates a two-way coaxial transducer system into a single 8-inch chassis powered by a single neodymium magnet motor — the same NCX750 platform architecture found on the 10, 12, and 15-inch coaxials.

The LF section uses a 75 mm (3-inch) copper ISV (Interleaved Sandwich Voice Coil) with a 12 mm winding depth operating in a 7.6 mm magnetic gap. The 75 mm coil in an 8-inch frame is dramatically oversized relative to the cone diameter — where the 15NCX750 uses the same coil behind a 380 mm cone with 881 cm² of radiating area, the 18 Sound 8NCX750 uses it behind a 200 mm cone with 227 cm². The coil-to-cone ratio is the highest of any 18 Sound coaxial, which is why the motor specifications are so extreme.

An aluminium demodulating ring (SDR) reduces flux modulation during excursion. The ISV and SDR combination is the same distortion reduction package found across the NCX750 platform — the 18 Sound 8NCX750 carries the full premium motor technology regardless of its 8-inch format.

The 20 Tm force factor driving 29 g of moving mass produces 98 dB LF sensitivity, 2.5% reference efficiency, and the most extreme motor-dominant alignment of any 18 Sound coaxial. The Qts of 0.26 is lower than the 10NCX750’s 0.25 by only 0.01. The EBP of 411 Hz is the highest in the coaxial range by a massive margin — 165 Hz above the 10NCX750’s 246 Hz. The 111 Hz Fs confirms the 18 Sound 8NCX750 operates as a mid-bass and midrange transducer, not a woofer.

The 4 mm Xmax with 3 mm Xvar is the shortest displacement of any 18 Sound coaxial. Every parameter is traded for sensitivity and motor control. The 18 Sound 8NCX750 does not produce deep bass — it produces the highest-output, most controlled mid-bass and mid-range from an 8-inch coaxial point source.

The straight cone profile uses high-damping pulp composition for smooth response within the operating range. The water-repellent treatment and corrosion-resistant magnet plate coatings provide outdoor durability.

The HF section uses the same 64 mm (2.5-inch) EWAL (Edge-Wound Aluminium) voice coil and 60 mm titanium diaphragm platform found on the 10NCX750 and 12NCX750. The titanium dome is joined to a high-strength Nomex former at its upper bend edge. A copper sleeve reduces inductance above 10 kHz. The proprietary 3P hybrid radial tangerine phase plug produces smooth, coherent wavefronts. The specific HF exit profile maximises coupling with the 8-inch cone-waveguide for 80° coverage.

The 105 dB HF sensitivity and 70 W AES / 140 W program power handling match the 10NCX750 and 12NCX750 exactly. The 1.2 kHz recommended crossover is the same. The 18 Sound 8NCX750 carries the identical HF section — the format change affects only the LF side.

The 0.52 mH Le is the lowest of any 8-inch coaxial and matches the 10NCX750’s 0.54 mH. The low inductance produces flat impedance behaviour through the upper LF range, supporting clean crossover transitions and predictable DSP response.

At 3.95 kg, 210 mm overall diameter, 186 mm baffle cutout, and 132 mm depth, the 18 Sound 8NCX750 is the lightest and one of the shallowest coaxials in 18 Sound’s range. The 132 mm depth matches the 8CX650.

Performance and Applications for the 18 Sound 8NCX750

The 18 Sound 8NCX750 delivers 98 dB LF sensitivity from 90 Hz and 105 dB HF sensitivity from the 1.2 kHz crossover point upward. The 7 dB sensitivity difference between sections is the smallest of any 18 Sound coaxial — the LF section’s extreme motor efficiency narrows the gap between woofer and compression driver output.

The 98 dB LF sensitivity from an 8-inch coaxial is 7 dB above the 8CX650’s 91 dB and 3 dB above the 8CX401F’s 95 dB. At 98 dB, the 18 Sound 8NCX750 produces roughly five times more LF acoustic power per watt than the 8CX650. For applications where mid-bass output per watt defines the system’s capability, the gap is enormous.

The 80° coverage provides controlled point-source dispersion. Both LF and HF sections share the same acoustic axis for coaxial coherence — no lobing, no comb-filtering at the crossover. The 80° is narrower than the 8CX650’s 90° nominal and the 8CX401F’s 90°, providing slightly more concentration and SPL at distance.

The 5-litre minimum enclosure is the specification that enables applications no other coaxial can serve. Five litres is small enough for a sealed pod speaker, a compact ceiling module, a ultra-thin stage monitor, or an architectural fixture where the speaker must disappear into the building. The 111 Hz Fs and 0.26 Qts work in this tiny volume because the extreme motor dominance damps the response naturally — the driver doesn’t need enclosure volume to control its output. The motor does the work.

18 Sound specifically notes the 18 Sound 8NCX750 works in both reflex and sealed enclosures. A sealed 5-litre cabinet produces tight, controlled mid-bass from approximately 120 Hz upward — the roll-off below is smooth and natural. A vented enclosure of 8–15 litres can extend the response slightly lower, but the 111 Hz Fs means deep bass extension is not in this driver’s vocabulary regardless of enclosure type.

The 300 W AES / 600 W program LF power handling is the highest of any 18 Sound 8-inch coaxial — the 75 mm ISV copper coil’s thermal mass provides headroom that the smaller 51 and 65 mm coils on the 8CX401F and 8CX650 can’t match.

The 411 Hz EBP confirms the 18 Sound 8NCX750 is designed for horn-loaded and vented applications where the extreme motor control produces the tightest, fastest, most defined mid-bass output. In horn-loaded configurations, the 18 Sound 8NCX750’s 98 dB sensitivity and 0.26 Qts produce extraordinary mid-frequency SPL from the 8-inch coaxial format.

The comparison across all three 8-inch coaxials defines three completely different products. The 8CX401F is the ferrite entry with the widest LF bandwidth (6100 Hz), highest Xmax (5.8 mm), and deepest bass (65 Hz). The 8CX650 is the Atmos-ready PEN option with the shallowest depth (132 mm) and widest coverage (90°). The 18 Sound 8NCX750 is the neodymium premium with the most motor force (20 Tm), highest sensitivity (98 dB), lightest weight (3.95 kg), smallest enclosure (5 litres), and highest power handling (300 W AES) — the 8-inch coaxial that carries 15-inch-class motor technology in a package under 4 kg.

Conclusion – 18 Sound 8NCX750 Coaxial Driver

The 18 Sound 8NCX750 is the most extreme coaxial transducer in 18 Sound’s range by motor specification. The 75 mm ISV copper coil, 20 Tm Bl, 0.26 Qts, and 411 Hz EBP are all coaxial-range records from an 8-inch format. The 5-litre minimum enclosure is three times smaller than the next smallest coaxial. The 3.95 kg weight is the lightest neodymium coaxial in the catalogue. The 98 dB LF sensitivity matches or exceeds most 10-inch coaxials.

The 18 Sound 8NCX750 is not a bass driver. It’s a mid-bass and midrange coaxial point source with 15-inch-class motor technology, designed to operate from 90 Hz upward in enclosures as small as 5 litres with a dedicated sub handling everything below. For compact stage monitors, horn-loaded mid-bass applications, ultra-compact pod speakers, and any system where the most motor-dominant, lightest, most compact-enclosure coaxial point source is the specification, the 18 Sound 8NCX750 is the 8-inch driver that carries the full NCX750 technology suite at 3.95 kilograms.

18 Sound lists the 8CX650 as the current alternative model. No current 8-inch coaxial in the range matches the 18 Sound 8NCX750’s motor specifications, sensitivity, or enclosure compactness. For builders who need what the 8NCX750 delivers, it remains the most capable 8-inch coaxial 18 Sound has ever produced.
