B&C 14NA100 – Ultimate 14-Inch Neodymium Woofer with High-Power 4-Inch Voice Coil

The B&C 14NA100 is the highest-power 14-inch woofer in B&C’s range — stepping up to a 100 mm aluminium voice coil that delivers 800 W AES power handling, 8.8 mm of linear excursion, and a 23.5 Tm force factor, all while maintaining 99 dB sensitivity. Where the NDL76 and NDL88 prioritise minimum weight with 3-inch and 3.5-inch coils, the B&C 14NA100 adds the thermal capacity and motor authority of a full 4-inch coil — giving you a 14-inch woofer with the power handling and control characteristics of a 15-inch driver.

B&C’s own positioning is direct: the 4-inch coil gives the B&C 14NA100 higher power handling and longer excursion, while the inside-slug neodymium magnet provides high motor strength and efficiency. The aluminium demodulating ring reduces distortion and flattens impedance into the mid frequencies — a feature that matters in two-way systems where the woofer operates up through the crossover region.

B&C recommends an extremely compact 60-litre vented enclosure tuned to 50 Hz — the smallest recommended enclosure of any 14-inch driver in B&C’s range. That tiny cabinet volume makes the B&C 14NA100 ideal for space-constrained designs where every litre of internal volume counts. At 8.3 kg, it’s the heaviest 14-inch in the lineup — the price for a 4-inch coil and a motor strong enough to match the lighter drivers on sensitivity.

Design and Construction of the B&C 14NA100

The B&C 14NA100 uses a 100 mm (4-inch) aluminium voice coil wound on a glass fibre former. The jump from the NDL88’s 88 mm coil to a full 4-inch diameter is significant — the larger coil provides substantially more surface area for heat dissipation, directly supporting the increase from 700 W to 800 W AES power handling. The 23 mm winding depth operating in an 11 mm magnetic gap yields 8.8 mm of linear one-way excursion (Xmax) with an additional 8.5 mm of travel (Xvar) before mechanical limits. Excursion-optimised lead wires woven through the spider prevent fatigue and breakage at these sustained displacement levels.

The motor uses a neodymium inside-slug magnet in a T-pole configuration, producing 1.15 T of flux density and a force factor (Bl) of 23.5 Tm. That’s a meaningful step up from the NDL88’s 19.9 Tm — the stronger motor maintains commanding control over the 96.5 g moving mass, which is how the B&C 14NA100 matches the NDL88’s 99 dB sensitivity despite the heavier coil assembly. An aluminium demodulating ring reduces flux modulation in the voice coil gap, keeping harmonic and intermodulation distortion low as power and excursion increase.

The remarkably low 0.74 mH voice coil inductance deserves attention. It’s the lowest Le of any 100 mm coil driver in B&C’s range and means the impedance curve stays flat well into the upper operating frequencies. For two-way system designers, this translates to more predictable crossover behaviour and smoother handoff to the compression driver — a tangible engineering advantage in the crossover region.

A ventilated voice coil gap reduces power compression during sustained use. Suspension is handled by a double silicone spider with optimised compliance and a triple-roll surround. The radial cone features WP waterproof treatment on the front side. At 8.3 kg and 176 mm deep, the B&C 14NA100 is the heaviest and deepest 14-inch driver in B&C’s standard range — the larger coil and stronger motor assembly account for the added mass compared to the NDL series.

Performance and Applications for the B&C 14NA100

The B&C 14NA100 delivers 99 dB sensitivity and 3.1% reference efficiency across a 45 Hz – 2000 Hz bandwidth. Matching 99 dB from a 4-inch coil driver — where the heavier coil assembly typically drags sensitivity down — is a testament to the 23.5 Tm motor and the efficient aluminium winding. In practice, you get the same output per watt as the NDL88 but with 14% more power handling (800 W vs 700 W) and 10% more linear excursion (8.8 mm vs 8 mm). When driven to full rated power, the B&C 14NA100 produces meaningfully higher peak output.

The Thiele–Small parameters define the most aggressively tuned 14-inch driver in B&C’s standard range. A Qts of 0.23 and an EBP of 179 Hz place the B&C 14NA100 firmly in vented and horn-loaded territory — this driver wants a tuned enclosure that leverages its strong motor damping. B&C recommends a 60-litre (2.12 ft³) vented enclosure tuned to 50 Hz — an extraordinarily compact cabinet that makes this driver ideal for tight two-way tops, compact horn bins, and line array bass sections where internal volume is severely constrained.

The 2000 Hz bandwidth with the radial cone profile positions the B&C 14NA100 differently from the 3000 Hz exponential-cone NDL series. It’s a woofer optimised for bass and low-mid duties with a crossover point in the 1–1.5 kHz range, rather than a wideband driver that reaches into the upper mid-range. For three-way systems or two-way designs with a lower crossover frequency, this is the more appropriate choice.

Ideal applications for the B&C 14NA100 include:

  • High-power two-way tops where maximum output matters more than upper-frequency bandwidth
  • Compact vented and horn-loaded cabinets exploiting the 60-litre enclosure recommendation
  • Three-way systems where the 14-inch handles dedicated bass and low-mid duties
  • Line array bass sections needing 4-inch coil power handling in a 14-inch format
  • Touring speaker systems requiring sustained high-power operation with low distortion

Conclusion – B&C 14NA100 Woofer

The B&C 14NA100 is the highest-power, highest-excursion 14-inch woofer in B&C’s standard range. The 4-inch voice coil gives it thermal headroom and motor authority that the 76 mm and 88 mm coil drivers can’t match — 800 W AES, 8.8 mm Xmax, and 23.5 Tm of force factor, all while maintaining the same 99 dB sensitivity as the lighter alternatives. When you need a 14-inch woofer that handles sustained high power without compromise, the B&C 14NA100 is where the range tops out.

The 60-litre recommended enclosure and 0.74 mH inductance are the two specs that make the B&C 14NA100 particularly attractive for system designers. The tiny cabinet volume means you can build seriously compact two-way tops and horn bins, and the low inductance ensures clean, predictable crossover behaviour up through the 2000 Hz operating range. Combined with the demodulating ring and ventilated gap, this is a driver engineered at every level for clean, high-output performance in professional system designs.

For high-power two-way tops, compact touring cabinets, line array bass sections, and any build where a 14-inch woofer needs to deliver 4-inch-coil power handling in a format smaller than 15 inches, the B&C 14NA100 is the neodymium 14-inch that fills the role completely. It’s the 14-inch driver you spec when output and power handling are non-negotiable.
