Ferrite Motor Design

At the heart of the B&C 5FG44 is a carefully engineered ferrite motor assembly designed to provide consistent magnetic performance and long-term reliability. The ferrite magnet structure delivers excellent magnetic stability while maintaining cost-effective performance for professional loudspeaker applications.

With a magnetic flux density of 1.1 Tesla, the motor system provides strong control over the moving assembly, helping to maintain low distortion and accurate cone movement throughout the driver’s operating range. The optimized magnetic circuit contributes to predictable acoustic performance and dependable operation under continuous professional use.

The motor structure incorporates a T-pole design, which assists in maintaining efficient magnetic coupling and contributes to the driver’s overall performance consistency.

Large 44 mm Voice Coil Assembly

A standout feature of the B&C 5FG44 is its large 44 mm copper voice coil, a substantial size for a driver in this category. The oversized voice coil increases thermal capacity and improves power handling, allowing the driver to manage demanding signal levels while maintaining reliable operation.

The voice coil is wound using high-quality copper wire on a Kapton former, providing an excellent balance of thermal stability, durability, and efficiency. Kapton formers are widely used in professional loudspeaker designs due to their ability to withstand elevated operating temperatures without compromising structural integrity.

The voice coil features a 9 mm winding depth operating within a 6 mm magnetic gap, helping maintain strong motor control while supporting the excursion capability required for compact low-frequency reproduction.

With 100 W nominal power handling and 200 W continuous program power handling, the B&C 5FG44 offers impressive performance for compact professional loudspeaker systems.

Cone and Suspension Design

The B&C 5FG44 utilizes an exponential cone profile, carefully optimized to provide smooth frequency response characteristics and efficient acoustic loading. This cone geometry contributes to the driver’s ability to deliver clean bass response while maintaining detailed midrange performance.

The suspension system incorporates a roll surround, providing controlled cone movement and helping maintain linear performance throughout the driver’s operating range. This surround design supports accurate transient reproduction and reliable long-term operation.

A single spider suspension system maintains proper voice coil alignment while providing the mechanical stability required for professional applications. The combination of the surround and spider assembly helps ensure predictable behaviour under demanding operating conditions.

To improve durability and environmental resistance, the cone features WP Waterproof Front Side treatment. This protective coating helps safeguard the cone against moisture and humidity, making the driver suitable for both portable and installed sound reinforcement applications.

Compact Enclosure Performance

One of the major strengths of the B&C 5FG44 is its ability to deliver impressive low-frequency performance from compact enclosure volumes.

B&C recommends a 5 dm³ enclosure tuned to 70 Hz, allowing system designers to create compact loudspeaker systems without sacrificing useful bass extension. This makes the driver particularly attractive for portable PA systems, compact stage monitors, and space-conscious installation projects.

The driver’s low 63 Hz resonant frequency contributes to its ability to reproduce lower frequencies effectively despite its compact size. Combined with a well-controlled Qts of 0.27, the B&C 5FG44 is particularly well suited to vented enclosure alignments.

Its high EBP value of 210 Hz further confirms its suitability for bass reflex cabinet designs, enabling efficient low-frequency reproduction in appropriately tuned systems.
